Kadife Sokak: Kadıköy's Bar Street
Officially Kadife Sokak but known to everyone as 'Barlar Sokağı' — Bar Street — this short, sloping lane is the beating heart of Kadıköy's nightlife. Wooden rowhouses are packed with bars, live-music dens and alternative cafés, drawing students, musicians and night owls from both sides of the city.

The home of Kadıköy nightlife
Tucked into the Caferağa neighbourhood a step away from the old Moda quarter, Kadife Sokak is the centre of the Asian side's going-out culture. Small wooden houses have been turned into casual, laid-back bars where the crowd spills onto the cobbles on warm nights.
It's a favourite of locals, university students and travellers alike — here for craft cocktails, cheap local beer and music that swings from indie rock and jazz to electronica. Long-running spots like Karga and Arka Oda have given the street its reputation over the years.
More than just bars
Beyond the drinking, Kadife Sokak carries a distinctly artistic, underground spirit. Street murals cover the walls, second-hand bookshops tuck in between venues, and small independent stages host live gigs most nights.
It's busiest at weekends, when the whole street feels like one rolling party — but it stays unpretentious and friendly, the opposite of Istanbul's flashier club scene across the water.

How to get to Kadife Sokak
From the European side, take the ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy to Kadıköy (20–30 min) — Bar Street is just a 5–8 minute walk uphill through the market. The Marmaray from Sirkeci to Ayrılık Çeşmesi plus a short metro or taxi hop also works. Late at night, after ferries stop running, a taxi is your friend: from Sultanahmet expect roughly 450–600 TL in daytime traffic. Tell us your hotel and we'll sort the transfer there and back.
