If Kadıköy has a soul, it lives in Moda. This green headland of tea gardens, a long sea-wall promenade and a slow nostalgic tram is where locals come to watch the sun set behind the old city. It's a ten-minute walk from the ferry — and worth every step.

What Moda actually is
Moda is the leafy headland that hangs off the bottom of Kadıköy, surrounded by the Marmara Sea on three sides. There are no big sights to tick off — the point of Moda is the atmosphere: a wide seaside promenade where families cycle and couples walk, tea gardens perched above the water, and Art-Deco apartment blocks from Kadıköy's Belle Époque years tucked into quiet streets.
It's the kind of place you come to do nothing in particular, slowly, with a glass of çay in hand.
The nostalgic tram and the sea-wall walk
A single-car nostalgic tram (the T3 line) loops from the center of Kadıköy out through Moda and back — locals call it the 'Moda tramvayı'. It's more of a charming joyride than serious transport, but it drops you near the start of the promenade. From there, the sea-wall path runs for nearly two kilometers; follow it to the Moda tea garden (Moda Çay Bahçesi) for the classic view back toward Sultanahmet and the Princes' Islands.
Sunset, coffee and a slower Kadıköy
Moda is Istanbul's quiet third-wave coffee capital — small roasters and bakeries fill the back streets between Bahariye and the shore. Time your visit for late afternoon: walk the promenade as the light turns gold, then find a bench facing west. On a clear evening the silhouette of the old city across the water is the best free show in Istanbul.

- Boğa Heykeli (the Bull) — the famous bronze bull at Altıyol, 10 minutes back toward the center.
- Kadıköy Çarşı — the market district — fish, pickles and meyhane streets, on the way to the ferry.
- Yeldeğirmeni — the mural-covered neighborhood, a short walk north toward Haydarpaşa.
- Süreyya Opera House — the restored 1920s opera on pedestrian Bahariye Avenue.
How to get to Moda
From the European side, take any ferry to Kadıköy (about 20 minutes from Eminönü, Karaköy or Beşiktaş), then walk 12–15 minutes south through Bahariye, or hop on the nostalgic T3 tram. By Marmaray or metro, get off at Kadıköy or Ayrılık Çeşmesi and walk down. A taxi from Sultanahmet runs about 450–600 TL in the daytime.
