Option 1: The ferry — the trip everyone remembers
Take a ferry from Kadıköy to Eminönü or Karaköy and you get the cheapest Bosphorus cruise in Istanbul thrown in for free. The crossing is 20–25 minutes of open water, seagulls and skyline. From Eminönü or Sirkeci, the T1 tram drops you a short walk from the Blue Mosque. Total cost is around 40 TL with an Istanbulkart.
On a clear day this is not just transport, it is one of the best things you will do in Istanbul. Ferries leave every 15–20 minutes through the day.
Option 2: Marmaray + tram — when it's raining or you're in a hurry
If the weather is bad or you want the fastest door-to-door time, take the Marmaray from Ayrılık Çeşmesi (a short walk or one metro stop from Kadıköy) under the Bosphorus to Sirkeci, then the T1 tram two stops to Sultanahmet. It is the quickest route — 25–35 minutes — costs about 35 TL with an Istanbulkart, and never gets stuck in traffic.
Option 3: Metered taxi
A taxi has to cross the Bosphorus Bridge, which means tolls and — at the wrong hour — serious traffic. Expect 450–600 TL on the day meter and roughly 50% more at night. It makes sense late at night when ferries have stopped, or if you have heavy luggage and want door-to-door, but in daytime traffic the ferry will often get you there first for a tenth of the price.
